Week of January 9-13
We welcomed a new classmate today, Jacob. (We now have 12 boys and 12 girls.) Jacob's family is part of the Westlake community but is new to BridgePoint. I know you will all make the Marks family feel welcome.
Reading books will go home this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Please have your child read the book to you twice and return it to school the following day. This Wednesday I will be at school, but I will be giving reading assessments all day. Jordan Kurth will be in the classroom with the kiddos. (Jordan is our campus substitute.)
Scholastic book order forms will go home tomorrow and are due next Friday, January 20. Please remember to log in to scholastic.com and make all payments online. Our class code is PB4TM.
If your student will be attending an after-school enrichment class, please remember to send a yellow change-of-transportation note EACH time they go. Let me know if you are in need of more yellow notes and I will grab some from the office. Also, it is very helpful to let me know via email when the classes end. Some go for a few weeks while others go for a semester! I want to make sure I get your child to the right spot after school!
Week of January 2-6
Happy New Year and Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break. We had a very busy first day of the new semester and are quickly getting back into our classroom routines. Can you believe we are halfway to first grade?!!
Thank you to all of the moms who helped plan the Winter Party! You did an amazing job and the kids had a blast! Thank you also for all of the generous gifts you gave to me. I feel so blessed to have not only a super group of kiddos but also a supportive group of parents. You really are the best!
Important Dates and Information:
Look for this week's decodable reader, For Me!, in your student's blue folder tonight. Leveled books will go home again starting next week. Over the next couple of weeks I will be assessing your student's reading level; reading groups and leveled homework books are based off of this assessment so look for possible changes soon.
Week of October 3-7
Room 109 earned 10 stars for great classroom behavior so we will celebrate with a Pajama Day this Friday!! Students are welcome to wear appropriate pj's to school. We will be going outside as usual AND it is a PE day so students will need to wear tennis shoes!
*Scholastic Book Orders went home today in your students' blue folders. All orders and payments should be completed online by Friday, October 14. This will ensure that the books arrive in plenty of time for Halloween. To order go to www.scholastic.com/readingclub. It will ask you to enter a code for your teacher. My code is PB4TM. Please let me know if you have any questions.
*Important Conference Information:
You will now be able to schedule your own conference time in Skyward's Family Access. The window will open Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4th, at 7:30 AM. I have tried to provide a variety of dates and times for conferences so that you are able to find one that works with your schedule.
*Half Days are Wednesday, October 19 – Friday, October 21 due to Parent Conferences. Kindergarten dismissal will be 11:40. Lunch will NOT be served on these days, so you may want to pack a hearty snack to be eaten in class.
Week of Sept. 26-30
Take home books: Thank you so much for helping your student return his/her book and book bag each day. I will continue to send home the books from our reading units until I have finished the reading assessments. I will look forward to sharing lots of good information with you at our parent/teacher conference in October.
Parent Volunteers: We love our parent volunteers!! You are now welcome to check the link and sign up for any vacant days. Volunteer times for my class are 9:30-10:15. This might be a little bit earlier than the other Kindergarten teachers so I apologize for confusing a few of you who have students in other rooms. Whether you are early, late, or in between, come on in and join us!
Conferences: You should be receiving information regarding conferences very soon! (We are having a meeting tomorrow to discuss a new scheduling system.) Official conference days are Oct. 19-21 but I will be providing some other days as options for those who might need/prefer a different time. Stay tuned....
Week of Sept. 19-23
Our fifth week of school is off to an amazing start and your students are doing a great job of following our class routines! It's hard to believe this is only the 20th day of school!
I am in the process of completing beginning literacy assessments with your students. Once I complete the letter recognition and sounds assessments, I will begin to assess reading levels. Once reading levels are determined, I can begin to pull small reading groups and send home leveled readers for practice. In the meantime, I will continue to send home books that correspond with our reading units. Thanks for reading these with your students and returning them daily.

Scheduling for parent conferences will begin soon. The scheduled days are October 19-21 in the afternoon, beginning at noon. These will be half days for the students and every effort is made to schedule siblings with back-to-back conference times. Week of August 29-September 2
Week two is already off to a great start! I am so proud of my students and how quickly the are picking up our routines and procedures. A lot of time is spent at the beginning of the year on rules, routines, and procedures and it is not always the most exciting time, but hang in there! We will slowly keep adding in more academics each day as we continue to learn the ropes.
Important Reminders:
Thursday, September 8th - Learning Station Volunteer Orientation, 12 pm in Room 109
Note: If you have already attended a Parent Volunteer Meeting in the past, no need to come again, you will just need to sign a new confidentiality form. Let me know if you would like for me to send the information home with your child. Of course anyone who would like a ‘refresher’ is welcome to join us! Thanks!
Weekly Reading Assignments - Each Monday your child will bring home a small decodable reader (this week is I Am) as well as the Family Times pamphlet, which includes suggested activities for each day of the week. We read the decodable book together in class every Monday, so your child is familiar with it. Reading the booklet every day helps build fluency and sight word recognition. The paper book is for your child to keep, so no need to send it back to school. The Family Times activities are always optional, but definitely help reinforce the concepts we are working on in class. No need to return these either.
